Question
Answer
1. How should I make Skype or SkypeOut calls quickly, for example, I have not copied Skype Contact List into my phone yet ("Sync Skype List" has not been done)?

There are two dial methods without "Sync Skype List" performed: by phone's number pad or by computer's mouse or keyboard.

Suppose speed-dial number has been assigned under Contact List in Skype software; telephone line is connected and Default Phone is set to "PSTN". If Default Phone is already set to "PC", skip step 1 except lift the handset.

By phone's number pad:
1. Lift the handset and press "PC" button to go into "pc talking" mode.
2. Press speed-dial number followed by "#" to send. For SkypeOut without speed-dial number assigned, press 00 + country code + area code + local number followed by "#" to send.

By computer's mouse or keyboard:
1. Lift the handset and press "PC" button to go into "pc talking" mode.
2. Press "PC" button again to bring up Skype software to the monitor.
3. Type speed-dial number and press "Enter" to send. If speed-dial number has not been assigned, use mouse to double-click on the person under Contact List. For Skypeout, use keyboard to enter 00 + country code + area code + local number and press "Enter" to send.

2. If I am making calls by mouse click on Skype Contact List or by keyboard (like SkypeOut), the voice seems to travel only one direction. Sometimes, I can only hear "hum" noise.

Skype software is incapable of giving out dial tone when the handset is lifted, so the phone will feel "dead" to human ear. To overcome this, JSP-101G gives out a simulated dial tone to let the caller feel more natural. However, if the caller skips dialing with JSP-101G and makes calls directly with Skype software by mouse click, but Skype software is incapable of passing "off-hook" information back to JSP-101G, so the simulated dial tone will not be intercepted, resulting that the caller's voice will not go through mouthpiece.
We recommend creating speed-dial numbers for frequent calling parties and making calls with JSP-101G . However, if you prefer making calls with Skype software by mouse or keyboard , there is a specific way to do it. Please refer to the first FAQ about how to make calls by computer's mouse or keyboard.
3. I have subscribed "Call Waiting" service from local the telephone company. While I am having a conversation with the first caller, how can I pick up the second caller and later switch between the two callers?
Please press "Flash" button to pick up the second caller and later switch between the two callers.
4. I am connecting the phone to my company's PBX, and how can I do call transfer?
Please press "FLASH" button and followed by the extension number you are transferring. If the call transfer fails, you need to adjust "FLASH TIME" value (from 100ms to 900ms, default is 600ms) to match with your PBX. If you do not know the PBX's flash time value, you can simply try out every setting until it works stably. Please refer to the manual regarding flash time adjustment.
5. When I make a call with mouse click in the Skype software instead of using the number pad on the phone, the receiving party cannot hear my voice.
This situation may happen on certain phone sets. Please follow the dial method in the first FAQ, "How should I make Skype or SkypeOut calls quickly ....." to dial by computer, and this issue will be resolved.
6. How to use the number pad on the phone to make a call?
First, under Skype Contacts, you need to assign the person a 2-digit speed-dial number. Please right-click on the person and click "Set Speed-Dial" on the pop-up menu. Please enter a 2-digit number and press "OK" button. After the number is assigned, it will appear on the right hand side of the person. Second, lift the handset ==> press "PC" button once (if the default phone is "PSTN") ==> press the speed-dial number ==> press "Dial" button or "#" sign to send.
7. How can I make a Skype call to a traditional landline phone or a mobile phone?
First, you must already have a Skype account, and Skype software is installed in your computer. Second, you need to go to Skype website and purchase SkypeOut credits. Third, lift the handset and press "PC" button once (if default phone is not "PC") ==> press "00" (without quotes) followed by country code, city code, and local number==> press "Dial" of "#" sign to send.

* Please refer to Skype website for SkypeOut coverage and rates (http://www.skype.com/allfeatures/callphones/)

8. How can I receive a Skype call from a traditional landline phone or a mobile phone?
First, you must already have a Skype account, and Skype software is installed in your computer. Second, you need to go to Skype website and purchase a SkypeIn number. Third, when phone rings or the red LED light is blinking, lift the handset or press "HANDSFREE" to start conversation.

* Please refer to Skype website for SkypeIn coverage and rates (http://www.skype.com/allfeatures/)

9. What is "Flash" button for?
"Flash" bottom is mainly used for 1. pick up and switch between two active PSTN calls (Call Waiting service); 2. transfer call to another extension in the office environment with a PBX system in place.
10. What is "Flash Time"?
Flash time is the value used by either the local telephone company or PBS system to identify a soft "on-hook" signal. Flash time does vary according to different telephone regulation in each country and PBX systems, but this value used on SkyTalk must be the same as the telephone company or the PBX system it is connected to. So, SkyTalk provides the flexibility to adjust its "flash time" to cope with different countries and PBX systems. Please refer to the manual regarding flash time adjustment.
11. When the phone is connected to the computer, my speakers seems stop working. All of my Windows and music player sounds go to the phone instead of my speakers.
Please change Windowss's default sound device back to the sound card that will avoid hearing the sounds coming from the comouter. The steps are: go to "Control Panel" ==> click on "Sounds and Audio Device" icon ==> click on "Audio" tag ==> under "Sound playback" and "Sound recording", change "Generic USB Audio Device" back to your sound card.
12. The sound quality is poor sometimes, so is there a way to see connection statistics for each call?
Yes. First, under Skype software, please go to "Tools"==> "Options"==> "Advanced" ==> enable "Display technical call info"==> "Save". Seconds, during each call, move your cursor over the person's picture frame, and the detailed technical call info will pop up.
13. Are there some ways to improve or fine tune Skype call quality?
Yes. Please refer to below Skype website for improving call quality:

If you are in busy network environment, you may have to implement some types of QoS mechanism to guarantee the voice traffic used by Skype software.

14. When the phone is not connected to the computer, the LCD screen seems broken.
The LCD screen is powered by either USB power or batteries in the phone. So, we recommend installing 3 AAA batteries if your phone is not always powered by the computer.
15. When the phone is not connected to the computer, the "HANDSFREE" button seems not working.
The phone's microphone and speaker are powered by either USB power or batteries in the phone. So, we recommend installing 3 AAA batteries if your phone is not always powered by the computer.
16. There are many versions of Skype software, and which version should work best with JSP-101G?
Please use Skype v2.5.0.154 to ensure full compatibility and stability. Other versions of Skype may produce unexpected results in certain features. Skype v2.5.0.154 can be downloaded HERE.
17. My phone has been working without problems for weeks or months, but suddenly it starts acting strangely. For example, my voice is not going though, but nothing seems to be wrong.
By default, Skype software periodically checks for newer version and then updates itself automatically. Unfortunately, the versions above v2.5.x have not been fully tested for compatibility. So, we encourage staying with version v2.5.0.154 and also disabling automatic updates as shown below:
18. Where can I verify the driver version that I installed?
When the driver is installed and running, there is a small handset icon on the right-hand-side of the Task Bar. Please right click on the icon and click "About" on the pop-up menu to see the driver version. Please go to our website for the latest driver version (http://www.jaht.com/download/sp.htm). We do not recommend upgrading the driver if the current version has been running smoothly. However, if you decide to upgrade the driver, please uninstall the previous version prior to installing the new one.
